In this series, we are surveying some of the most important Reformed theological distinctions. These are not irrelevant or minor points of theology. Rather, these are distinctions where, if you get them wrong or ignore them, major theological disaster threatens to ensue. We need to strive for precision in our understanding of the teachings of God’s Word.

Despite being found in the Three Forms of Unity, today’s distinction has fallen on hard times. I have lost track of the number of times that I’ve heard Reformed ministers speak disparagingly of the distinction between law and gospel. I think I understand why it happens. Imagine if someone were to say, “Oh, covenant theology makes people into legalists. It’s good that we’ve broken free from the doctrine of the covenant. Inleiding

Die wesentlike doel van die boek is om vir gelowiges troos te bring, deur hul reg te leer wat die regte onderskeid is tussen die Wet (Moses) en die Evangelie (Jesus). As hierdie twee sake reg verstaan word, soos die Skrif dit leer, dan is daar geen onnodige valse teenstellings of vyandskap tussen wet en evangelie, Moses en Christus, die ou en nuwer verbondsbedelings, Ou en Nuwe Testament, ens. nie.  Ja, baie duidelike onderskeid oor wat elkeen se bepaalde doel en plek is in die Woord, maar nie vyandige valse teenstellings nie.
